User personas for Threads

DESIGN SCENARIO: "You are a UX designer for a social media platform. A few months post-launch, you've noticed a decline in user engagement. To address this, you plan to conduct user research to understand their needs and pain points better."

Upon reviewing the subject matter, my first step was to reflect on it. Before conducting in-depth research, I explored social media platforms related to the topic. I chose Threads, as its history is particularly intriguing. My research led me to the Wikipedia article on Threads, where I discovered that the platform was launched as an alternative for users and advertisers dissatisfied with Twitter’s management following Elon Musk’s acquisition. Threads made a remarkable debut, garnering over 100 million sign-ups in its first week. Functionally, it operates similarly to Twitter, offering a feed that combines short posts from followed accounts with content algorithmically selected as "of interest," updating regularly.

After exploring the history of Threads, I wanted to delve into its statistics. I assume that Meta retains some of this data internally, but I was able to find certain statistics in the media. While these figures should be interpreted with caution, they provide a valuable foundation for developing user personas. For those interested, here is a useful resource:

Based on this analysis, I developed three user personas for Threads: a prominent Twitter user, an Instagram artist, and an influencer seeking a “healthier” social network. Additionally, the statistics revealed that a significant portion of Threads' user base comes from India, making it essential for one of my personas to have Indian heritage. The data also indicated that most users are between 24 and 36 years old, so I ensured that one of my personas was younger than 24.

With the help of ChatGPT, I also crafted a brand story. And voilà—here are my user personas!
