Wireframing for Video Streaming Service

DESIGN SCENARIO: "You're a member of the design team at a video streaming service. Your task is to brainstorm ideas and design wireframes that offer a unique approach to service usability, setting it apart from competitors."

When exploring popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video, one thing is clear—they offer high-quality content and heavily promote trending shows. But despite their strengths, users often face common challenges:

  • Decision Fatigue: With so many options, it’s hard to know what to watch.

  • Social Disconnect: Watching with friends online isn’t always easy or accessible.

  • Accessibility Gaps: For users with disabilities, it can be difficult to find shows that support their specific needs (e.g., audio descriptions, sign language interpretation, dyslexia-friendly subtitles, etc.).

This design brief aims to reimagine the streaming experience by focusing on:

  1. Collaborative Viewing: Making it easier and more intuitive to watch shows with friends, regardless of distance or device.

  2. Smart Discovery: Helping users quickly find content they’ll love, even when they don’t know what they’re in the mood for.

  3. Inclusive Access: Clearly identifying and filtering content based on accessibility features tailored to individual disabilities.

challenge.

To improve this situation, I came up with three ideas:

  • Create a dedicated page to watch content remotely with friends.

  • Design an interactive quiz to help users discover content based on their preferences.

  • Make accessibility features more visible and easier to identify across the platform.

For this project, I designed the wireframes for a desktop experience.

result.

In addition to the usual navigation, two new categories are introduced to enhance the user experience:

  1. Quizz
This section helps users decide what to watch through a playful, interactive quiz. The experience is inspired by Tinder-style swiping—users can like or skip content, and the platform will make personalized recommendations based on their choices.

  2. Friends
A dedicated space to watch and share shows with friends. Users can create watch groups, see what their friends are watching, and access content they've enjoyed together.

When you click the "info" button, a popup page with the show's resume and accessible icons for those with disabilities will appear. The accessible icons for individuals with disabilities are the three circles beneath the play button.

Quiz Game Page – Discover by Mood

This interactive quiz is designed to help users quickly find something to watch that matches their current mood or preferences.

  • Simple Interaction:
Each question is answered with a "Yes" or "No" using clickable buttons or swipe gestures (similar to Tinder). This keeps the experience lightweight and intuitive.

  • Smart & Short:
The quiz pulls from a curated database of up to 25 questions or fewer, ensuring that users get results quickly without feeling overwhelmed or impatient.

  • Mood-Based Matching:
Questions are designed to assess the user's mood, genre preferences, or current interests (e.g., “Do you feel like watching something funny?”, “Do you want a short episode?”).

  • Tailored Results:
Once the quiz is complete, users are redirected to a personalized results page featuring a selection of TV shows, movies, and documentaries that best fit their answers.

Friends Page – Watch & Share Together

The Friends page lets users explore and watch content with their friends. It looks similar to the quiz results page but is organized by friend groups and shared shows.

Easy Sharing

Users can share a show in two ways:

  • Unique Link: A personalized link that redirects friends to the streaming platform.

  • Access Code: A code entered on the show’s page within 3 minutes to join the session.

Group Viewing

Users can create friend groups, see shared watch history, and start new sessions together.
